What temperature are the pools?
All our pools are naturally heated using hot mineral water pumped from the ground at 64˚C. The large outdoor pool is maintained at an average of 34˚C in winter and 32˚C in summer. Our indoor pool, private spas and the rock pool in our Private Venue are kept at an average of 40˚C year round.
Where does the water come from?
Aquatic Park’s naturally hot mineral water is pumped from an aquifer 20m underground.
Is the water treated?
Yes, so you can have complete confidence in our water quality. Aquatic Park relies on a double cleansing system that includes both filtration and water replacement. All pool water is pressure sand filtered 24 hours a day and treated with chlorine (the standard New Zealand swimming pool purifying system). Fresh hot mineral water is added to the pools on a daily basis to heat the pools - this replaces the pool water every 2.5 days. We test each pool every two hours, recording the findings and making any necessary adjustments to ensure the water stays at the highest quality level.
What about safety?
All water activities at Aquatic Park are supervised by National Pool Lifeguard qualified staff. Our Life Guards have an ongoing training programme with particular emphasis on safety, accident prevention and first aid. They are also trained in all aspects of our water treatment programme.
Do you offer swimming lessons?
Aquatic Park as such doesn’t provide lessons, but these can be provided by the Helensville Swimming Club. Please contact Katrina Ph 09 420 8870 for further information.
Can we bring our own food and drinks?
Yes. Our Springs Café sells a range of cook-to-order food such as fish, chips, hamburgers and hotdogs along with icecreams and both hot and cold drinks; however, you are welcome to bring your own food if you prefer. A gas burner BBQ can be pre-booked so you can prepare a full meal. Alcohol is permitted at the discretion of pool management.
Are the Aquatic Park Pools therapeutic?
Since Roman times people have bathed communally in hot water for relaxation and therapeutic reasons. Today, hot pools are popular places to relax and ‘unwind’ in and are used extensively to treat rheumatic conditions and paraplegia. They are also popular for treating orthopaedic conditions such as bone fractures and soft tissue injuries. In the early 1900s the Parakai Springs, as they were then known, were renowned throughout the Southern Hemisphere as a health spa. Even today our pools are use by medical practioners for hydrotherapy. |
